Living in Salina
The stretch around the old salt pans at the head of Salina Bay, between Bugibba and the coast road south. It is quieter than the resort towns beside it and the setting — water, salt pans and the nature reserve — is unlike anywhere else on the island.

Why live in Salina?
The bay and the salt pans
An unusual and genuinely pleasant outlook, and a flat coastal path that people use daily.
Next to Bugibba without being in it
Shops, restaurants and the front are minutes away; the noise is not.
Value
Cheaper than the equivalent nearer the harbour towns, with the same sea on your doorstep.
Space to move
The coastal stretch here is one of the better places on the island to run or cycle.
The lifestyle
Salina is calmer than its neighbours, which is its whole character. The reserve and the salt pans keep a stretch of the coast undeveloped, so the walk along the water is uninterrupted in a way it is not further round the bay. Summer brings traffic on the coast road and crowds into Bugibba next door, and the difference between a flat facing the bay and one facing the road is worth checking. Amenities are next door rather than here. A car is the norm, though the bus along the coast is workable for St Paul’s Bay and Bugibba.
Property in Salina
Mostly apartments, a good number of them with a view over the bay or the salt pans. The stock is generally newer than in the older village cores, with lifts and parking common. Prices sit below the harbour towns for comparable space and outlook, which is what brings people out this far. Furnished lettings dominate, as they do throughout the north.
Who is this area best for?
Couples
Sea views, quiet evenings, and Bugibba when you want it.
Families
Calmer than the resort towns with the same access to them.
Runners and walkers
The flattest and most continuous stretch of coast path in the north.
Less suited to
Anyone wanting to walk to work, and anyone who needs a wide choice of shops on the doorstep.
